Age of Forever: The Code for Immortality is Cracked!
In AD 2050, a corporation called LifeX was formed between seven organizations. The purpose was to bring about immortality, this was achieved in AD 2096.
The seven organizations are OrgaNovo (bioprinting of organs), BioViva (anti-aging gene tech), Google's Calico (non-traditional anti-aging gene tech), NeuraLink (neural interface technology for mind programming and mind uploading), Nanobiosym (nanobots for in-tissue repairs of cellular damages), the Cryonics Institute (long-term preservation of deceased persons for future resurrection), and LifeNode, which is a blockchain-based network where everyone alive belong and have equal vote and say, and jointly decide on matters of life and death in the universe (remember the space cities).
[Scene 1: A Holographic Doctor with a Gentle Smile]
Narrator: The year is AD 2124. You sit in a pristine medical bay, bathed in soft blue light. Instead of a white coat, Dr. Aurora Vega wears a sleek AR visor, projecting your vitals and genetic code onto the air on a phantasmal ether screen.
Dr. Vega: Congratulations, Ms. Sharma. Thanks to advancements by LifeX, your telomere therapy was a success. You've officially entered the programme, Operation Immortality – humanity's first foray into biologically unending life.
Narrator: Welcome to a world where death is no longer an inevitability. The dream of immortality, once relegated to myth, has become a scientific reality through cellular rejuvenation, bioprinted organ replacements and genetic manipulations. But at what cost?
[Scene 2: A Bustling Metropolis with Ageless Faces]
Narrator: You step outside, greeted by a vibrant cityscape teeming with people. The faces you see are a fusion of ages where mortality pauses and wrinkles defy the passage of time. Teenagers with silver streaks of hair mingle with elders who appear eternally youthful. Welcome to Eternalpolis, the first human metropolis designed exclusively for those who have attained immortality.
Pause. Then resumes.
Narrator: LifeX’s revolutionary telomere therapy repairs cellular damage, essentially resetting the body's aging clock. Immortality isn't instantaneous, but gradual. People enter a state of extended health, with the promise of a near-indefinite lifespan. Organs damaged beyond salvaging are printed and successfully transplanted, instant healing follows through skin regeneration, leaving no wound nor scar. And those who were cryogenically preserved are revived and have their lives’ memories and consciousnesses uploaded back into them. Nanotechnology is used to repair and renew their tissues and they go on living without a known end.
[Scene 3: A Heated Debate on a Talk Show]
A simulated screen flickers to life in thin air, displaying a heated debate on a popular talk show; the show is visible on either side of an ether screen. A renowned bioethicist argues passionately.
Bioethicist: Immortality is a Pandora's Box! Overpopulation will become a crisis. Resources will be strained. Imagine an Earth where nobody dies, therefore nobody makes way for the new!
Narrator: The ethical and social implications of immortality are vast. Overpopulation is a major concern. LifeX addresses this with rigorous selection criteria and population control measures within Operation Immortality. However, some argue for a lottery system or a path to immortality achievable through exceptional contributions to society.
[Scene 4: A Lush Vertical Farm with Towering Crops]
A sleek, automated vertical farm stretches towards the sky. Inside, robots tend to rows of genetically modified crops, yielding significantly higher outputs. Advanced resource management and sustainable technologies are crucial in this new era.
Narrator: Sustainable living is paramount. Advancements in agriculture, spearheaded by companies like GreenCo (founded in 2105), ensure efficient resource utilization and minimize environmental impact. Regulations and social movements have also fostered a culture of responsible consumption, ensuring a future where humanity's footprint shrinks even as its lifespan expands.
[Scene 5: A Discussion with Dr. Aurora Vega]
Back in the medical bay, you have a quiet moment with Dr. Vega.
You: What about the meaning of life? Does it change when death is no longer on the horizon?
Dr. Vega: An excellent question. Immortality opens doors for exploration, self-discovery, and pursuing passions for centuries. The meaning of life becomes what you make it, a journey without a predetermined end. Many are finding fulfillment in fields like space exploration, artistic endeavors that span generations, or even mentoring future generations for millennia.
Narrator: The psychological impact of immortality is being actively studied. Existential questions take on new meaning. Finding purpose and fulfillment in an extended lifespan is a challenge many grapple with. Therapists specializing in existential concerns are in high demand, helping individuals navigate this uncharted territory. Humans have conquered death and all its symptoms, the challenge now is having too much life without knowing what to do with it. Many get so bored to death they choose not to live any longer, thereby paving the way for another to be granted eternal life by LifeNode. For surely, not all of mankind attained to it at once.
[Message from Tomorrow]
While we await the dawning of our day of immortality, before the finite present catches up with an everlasting future, we may look towards cryogenics for the preservation of our bodies, and to Elon’s NeuraLink for the preservation of our soul’s mind. This way, when we die, we sleep with the hope of rising again in a brave new Age of Forever. Without doubt, the future is forever!
